Adapted from the celebrated Broadway musical, this rousing Calypso-flavored tale follows one small girl who finds love in a world of prejudice. Once on This Island JR. is a highly original theatrical adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s popular fairy tale The Little Mermaid.
This full-hearted musical tells the story of Ti Moune, a peasant girl who rescues and falls in love with Daniel, a wealthy boy from the other side of her island. When Daniel is returned to his people, the fantastical gods who rule the island guide Ti Moune on a quest that will test the strength of her love against the powerful forces of prejudice, hatred and even death.

Milwaukee county, you showed up this weekend! From tech week to a full weekend of shows to the first night of class to auditions to callbacks, all in two weeks. You are incredible, and we are all so proud of you. Thank you for giving your whole self to this process – your body, your mind, your spirit!
For those that didn’t get the part you wanted or didn’t get cast for this show – our hearts are with you! We know it can be disappointing when your path looks different than you thought it would. Thank you for bringing your talents and for sharing your light with us this weekend! We challenge all of you to lean in to find joy in the part you were given, or to come alongside the cast as a backstage crew member or usher. We are so excited to work with each and every one of you, and trust that God placed you in the exact spot you are for this season!
As we start this journey together, let the words of Paul begin to sit in your spirit: “get along with each other; don’t be stuck-up. Make friends with nobodies; don’t be the great somebody. Don’t hit back; discover beauty in everyone.” (This is our show verse – Romans 12:16-17)
We are so excited to create and discover beauty through this incredible show, and to grow together in humility, curiosity, and love.
