Description

Take a class focusing on solo acting. Actors will leave this class with comedic and dramatic monologues, both  classical and contemporary. A play is a series of scenes strung together. Come explore the nuances of both.  Students will discover what character type best suits them. They’ll learn to infuse truth into characters, focus on  and listen to their scene partner and bring a playwright’s vision to life. All these skills will translate into  stronger auditions and performances. Select appropriate monologues (classic and contemporary, dramatic and  comedic), learn to analyze rhythm, themes, and structure of a monologue, learn how to receive and give  feedback and critique, and strengthen individual acting skills.

Leanna Cavender

Leanna will be going into her 5th year of teaching with CYT and has been cheering on performances from the audience for much, much longer! You might also recognize her face from the Tech Team. She has a passion for theater and teaching, which is what brought her here. As a former English teacher, she loves Drama Classes and getting creative. Star Wars Shakespeare, Disney on Broadway and Lip Sync Battle are just a few classes that have blended her interests in the past - always rousing ideas for new ones too! When she's not working, teaching or teching you might find her on an adventure with her 3 children and husband, reading a book, drinking more coffee or attempting to run off to NYC to see a show.
