Description

Psalm 150 says, "Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!" That is exactly what we will do in this two-session audition class. Building on the foundation of dance as worship to the Giver of the gift, dancers will focus on using traditional and classical dance techniques and styles to help create a strong foundation for solid dance skills. 150 Dance Jr. is a class for young dancers with strong dance skills or a strong desire to study dance at a high level. Dancers will audition before the winter session and those chosen to be on the team need to commit to the winter and spring sessions. The showcase pieces will incorporate skills learned during class in the areas of classical ballet and other traditional dance styles, while challenging the dancers in the area of expression and performance.
** Please Note:
  • 150 classes are a two-session commitment.
  • Participation in this class is through audition only.
  • There must be a minimum of 8 participants for this class to run.
Auditions will be held Saturday, November 1st from 2pm-4pm at Wellspring Alliance Church in Wheaton.

Teacher:

Rachel Waterman

Rachel Waterman grew up as a missionary kid in the Philippines, studying ballet and performing in plays, musicals, and singing groups, along with choreographing all her high school musicals. Her passion for theater and ministry led her to get her BA in Theatre Arts at Huntington University. She then served as a missionary to international schools in Seoul, South Korea (1998-2002) and Bogotá, Colombia (1994, 2005-06), teaching and directing a variety of courses and shows. Since college, she has earned graduate credits in a variety of education and dance courses. For a time, Rachel was involved in, and even led, a worship dance ministry at her church, Wellspring Alliance. Through that ministry, she learned how to incorporate worship tools such as fabrics, flags, streamers, etc. into dance pieces—you may see that in her choreography! Now, she co-leads an inter-generational home group for church. God led her to CYT-Chicago in 2007; Rachel has taught regularly in Dupage and Aurora counties and has served in various roles on directing teams in multiple locations. She stays busy teaching dance, drama, choreographing and directing! She offers private lessons and works for a school district and another youth theatre. In her down time, she LOVES playing strategy board games with friends or listening to audio books at very high speeds.
