Class Description

Modern dance began as a style that broke away from the rigid rules of ballet. Modern dance encourages freedom of expression and, unlike ballet, uses moves like spirals and contractions of the spine, fall and recovery and lots of floor work in class. Lyrical is a fluid, expressive dance form that blends ballet, jazz, and modern styles. Lyrical is often described as graceful, yet requires strength and control. Students will demonstrate the foundational elements of lyrical and modern dance in a piece to be performed at the end of class Showcase performance.
