The fundamentals of Jazz Dance are found in many other styles including Musical Theatre, while Modern dance began as a style that broke away from the rigid rules of ballet . Jazz dance often utilizes modern music and features syncopated movements, energetic choreography, and complex patterns. Modern dance encourages freedom of expression and, unlike ballet, uses moves like spirals and contractions of the spine, fall and recovery and lots of floor work in class. Students will be encouraged to demonstrate the foundational elements of jazz and modern dance in a piece to be performed at the end of class Showcase production.
