Class Description

Create drama, humor and stories on the spot. This class will give you the basic principles of improvisation and give you the confidence to embrace everything that is thrown at you when you don't have a script in your hands. Learn team-building skills that will strengthen your ability to play with your partners on stage. In this class that solely focuses on short-form improv, you will learn how to live “in the moment" and confidently say “Yes, and!” to anything.

Kara Walla

I have been performing with CYT since I was 15 years old. Outside of CYT, I have an extensive musical education, including years of piano lessons, voice classes, and figuring the marimba out enough to not embarrass my school at the state marching band competition. I took ballet classes for years in addition to a variety of dance styles through CYT. I performed in marching band and choir at both the high school and college levels, and I was the pit section leader in my university marching band. In addition to theater, I have enjoyed performing in competitive speech events and my college film department. I have a BS in computer science from Evangel University with a concentration in mathematics, but don't worry, most of my extracurricular activities and elective classes focused on art, music, and performance. I am a software engineer by day and a theater addict by night. I teach a wide variety of classes for CYT, including advanced stage makeup, human video, beginner voice, and improv. Last year, my husband and I co-coached Milwaukee's competitive improv team to a third-place finish. We hope to make it to nationals next year!
