Class Description

Modern dance began as a style that broke away from the rigid rules of ballet. Modern dance encourages freedom of expression and, unlike ballet, uses moves like spirals and contractions of the spine, fall and recovery and lots of floor work in class. Lyrical is a fluid, expressive dance form that blends ballet, jazz, and modern styles. Lyrical is often described as graceful, yet requires strength and control. Students will demonstrate the foundational elements of lyrical and modern dance in a piece to be performed at the end of class Showcase performance.

Anna Lewis

Dancing since the age of 4, I received the majority of my training from Dancenter-North in Libertyville where I performed in their annual Nutcracker, Spring and Summer shows. During my dance training I also studied martial arts and received my jr black belt at the age of 14. After graduating highschool I was introduced to CYT By a college class mate where I auditioned and performed in two shows in Lake County before graduating. I now work for 2 dance studios in Lake and Cook County, teach classes, am a Project Dance Coach as well as choreograph musicals for CYT, and manage a small dance boutique in Libertyville. I am also currently continuing my dance education at College of Lake County.
