Class Description

Whether you are naturally comedic or simply appreciate those who are, come learn what makes something funny, funny! Take an objective approach to what makes you laugh and the reasons why. After learning the basic rules of comedy, apply them to different genres. Students will learn to create a believable and imaginative character that will be memorable on stage. From slapstick to melodrama, this class will keep you laughing! Apply what you have learned to scenes that will be performed in showcase.

Abby Nicola

Abby has taught CYT classes since 2016, has been on the directing team for three CYT productions, and has served as the Project Dance Jr. coach. She has been teaching dance and drama through several children's theaters and organizations for the past 5 years. Abby has been active in local community theater for many years and was last seen as Adelaide in the Hartford Players' production of Guys and Dolls. She is currently performer in the Musical Masquer's production of How to Succeed in Business as Hedy LaRue. You may also have seen her on tv devouring a burger for Culver's! She also extends her love for performing to the community doing princess appearances for local community and charity events. Abby has had a lifelong passion for the arts is always eager to share her experience and enthusiasm in the classroom. Abby's goal as a teacher is to create a safe space for students to grow in their abilities and confidence so that they can shine both on and off the stage and find an outlet in the world to use their God-given gifts.
